Theme of the conference: Technology and mobility
From June 7-10, 2023, the Japanese Society for Science and Technology Studies, or JSSTS will host the 23rd biennial international conference of the Society for Philosophy and Technology. The conference theme is "Technology and Mobility,"
Technologies always expand human mobility. Ships have made transcontinental travel possible, and cars have made everyday long-distance movement possible. We can also say that the development of the telephone and internet has made the world “smaller” and thereby changed our idea of mobility. And now, developments in technologies such as AI and self-driving cars are bringing a new situation. Technologies not only expand the range of our movement but also significantly change the way we move itself.
In addition, the COVID-19 pandemic forces us to consider the issue. The pandemic forced us to stop moving all over the world, and instead, we create a variety of activities by using ICT technologies. The situation calls into questions: What does it mean for people to move and meet in person, and how does technology connect people?
At this conference, we aim to reflect on the relationship between technologies and mobility, but papers reflecting on any aspect of technology are welcomed.
